Forgive me for being underwhelmed but after all the excitement of 'Who Will Be On Strictly This Year' we get Mollie King as our first reveal. Don't get me wrong. Mollie looks very nice and will no doubt be very good indeed. But she'd been all but confirmed weeks ago and if we're honest, we kind of expect Mollie or a kind of Mollie to turn up every year. I am beginning to fear a wishy washy, watered down and weak Strictly 2017.

The celeb reveal will now career onwards until August 28th when the Launch Show is filmed. Which means three weeks of announcements in variously predictable ways. Grimmers has already had his moment but The One Show, BBC Breakfast and Chris Evans are all waiting in the wings to sound the fanfare for another Strictly 2017 star. That's another thing that's making me think we could be treading water this year. It's all so obvious before we even get going that it has a real feeling of BBC bosses knowing this will bank a few million viewers on a Saturday night so just hoist up the glitterball and get on with it.
I really hope Mollie was the first to be revealed because she was such an obvious signing, what with the papers all but confirming it ages ago. I want this series to be fantabulous, sparkly and all those wonderful things. I just fear that with a predictable announcement like this one, we're in for a 2009 or 2013 all over again with a cast that feels like someone watched Celebrity Mr and Mrs and decided to get their work over for the year in one afternoon by hoovering up their signings. Good luck, Mollie, and good luck, Strictly. I just hope this year is as glittery as we all want it to be.
